Energy Keepers (a Corporation of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes) has recently completed their transition into owning and operating the Se̓liš Ksanka Qĺispe̓ Project (formerly Kerr Dam) in Polson, MT. We worked with their team to created temporary custom wayfinding signage for the dam's propery and scenic areas, as well as some custom wraps on their new BearSaver trash bins. The idea behind the signage was to show some of the Salish and Kootenai culture and spirit in the very basic format of these wayfinding signs, we designed a colorful tribal patttern to repeat around the border of all the signs and layed this over the top of a watermarked historic image in the background of all the signs. These subtle design elements help make these signs more visually interesting than the typical wayfinding signs you see at most dams or government operated facilities.
The second part of this project was to create a custom layout and wrap Energy Keepers new BearSaver trash bins. We touched up these amazing historic tribal photos provided by the client and collaged them to create a visually pleasing and interesting layout, what is normally just a place to throw away your trash, is now a focal point for dam visitors to view and learn some of the history of the construction of the dam and the area.
The Wrap Agency specializes in creative signage and wrap solutions, in this project Energy Keepers came to us with no ideas other than needing to throw their logo over the old signs at the dam. The Wrap Agency worked with them to create a unique look for their signage that not only shows off the new ownership of the dam, but reflects the spirit and history of their people.
